Q: What have you accomplished? What are your next steps? What issues or obstacles have you encountered that you have resolved or that you are still thinking through? What lingering questions do you have about the project or about your next steps?
I think with my project, the main goal for the first half of the semester was to lay the groundwork for actually building the website in its final form- this involved experimenting with Omeka, finding out what other features could possibly incorporated into the website (like an interactive map, perhaps), and learning about my own and the project’s limitations.
After fall break, I will focus on having the front-end of the website running and working the way we want it to, creating the four different collections that the class will use next semester, and finding out how best to go about working with a map on the site.
The most challenging part of the website would be working on the interactive map idea I had, but since this goes beyond the scope of my project, it is not my top priority. I will instead focus on having the website up and functioning according to what the project leads and I agreed on at the start of the semester, and then focus on making improvements and/or modifications.
One of my main questions concerns the formatting of the website. Since the website will technically still be unfinished before the class starts to work on it, what exactly will the ‘collections’ look like on the front end, since there is as yet no content in them and most of that work will be done by students in the class next semester?
