Q: Reflect on what you worked on and what you were trying to accomplish. Revisit the questions and struggles from your first pass at using Omeka: where do things stand now?
I worked on my existing Omeka site for my Vivero project since I had to start over on the new site. It was definitely a different experience from the first time I worked on the site since I was able to incorporate more tools and features into the site since the first time I worked on it. One of my main challenges was figuring out how to work with the new theme “Foundation” that I chose to build the draft site. This was different from the other theme I’d worked on and I hadn’t anticipated how different configuring the themes could be.
One of the things I figured out since last time was the homepage. With the previous site I was able to build exhibits but couldn’t really work out how to create the kind of homepage we need for the site. With the current site and the new theme the homepage is much closer to what we need for the site, and it should be complete with a few tweaks.
While there are still a few things I need to get the hang of (configuring the geolocation plugin, writing shortcode), I have a much better understanding of Omeka and its capabilities since the first version of the site.
