Q: How would you feel about helping someone else learn how to use Gale Digital Scholar Lab? What did you find most interesting? What did you find most frustrating? What questions do you still have, and what parts of the tool do you want to explore more deeply?

I think I would be comfortable helping someone use the Gale Digital Scholar Lab. It’s a fairly intuitive tool once you know what each of the main sections does. I think it’s a really powerful tool when you’re able to analyze materials you upload yourself. I think it would also be really cool when you’re analyzing a very large number of texts. Some of the ways I thought this particular feature could be useful was if you wanted to do text analysis on books published by a certain publishing house, for example. What themes does this publisher tend to favor? Are there surprisingly high instances of some words, and what could that mean?

I think I would want to explore more texts in different languages, just to see how the tool compares. Especially in languages that are more reliant on cases than English, it would be interesting to see how well Gale can identify and isolate root words and things like that.
