Q: What do you notice about the data and how it could be mapped? What do you notice about your visualization as you change its drawing style and customize its appearance?

I noticed that if the data doesn’t conform to ArcGIS’s built-in map database it can be hard to work with. I think it defaults to locations in the United States too, which makes sense, but does mean that the data has to be modified quite a bit before you can input it. This would make it really hard to work with if your data wasn’t already in the right format.

Q: How would you feel about helping someone else learn how to use ArcGIS Online? What did you find most interesting? What did you find most frustrating? What questions do you still have, and what parts of the tool do you want to explore more deeply?

I feel pretty good about helping someone use ArcGIS. I think like with other digital tools it would be a question of managing expectations about what the tool can and can’t do when you’re getting started with it.

I really liked playing around with the layers. This is something I can see being very useful in my own project that I’m working on, so I’m excited to incorporate it into my work.

The most frustrating part was probably inputting the data and getting a really weird map because ArcGIS didn’t read the location correctly, or it wasn’t in the right format.

I was wondering how you would go about using your own maps on ArcGIS, or if that is even possible. That’s something I’d like to explore further.
