Q: How would you feel about helping someone else learn how to use Omeka? What did you find most interesting? What did you find most frustrating? What questions do you still have, and what parts of the tool do you want to explore more deeply?
I feel decently prepared to help someone with Omeka. I think the main challenge would be managing expectations and being clear about the fact that there’s only so much you can do without spending some time exploring Omeka on your own. It’s a pretty powerful tool once you get to know it.
I really enjoyed exploring the different themes and plugins, especially the ‘Foudations’ theme. It gave me a lot of ideas for the digital project I’ll be working on this semester.
There wasn’t anything that was frustrating, but creating the subdomain was the most confusing part for me. I had to redo that a couple of times before it finally worked.
This might be something we cover in the next training session, but I was wondering if you could use maps from sites like ArcGIS in an Omeka site. I’ve seen interactive maps on Omeka sites so this should be possible, I’m just not sure how. This is what I’d be very interested in exploring, as well as how to incorporate other interactive elements like pictures, audio, etc.
