With a year of Vivero experience under your belts, what advice do you have for new Fellows about the idea that this job involves learning how to do your job on the fly?
I think the most important thing for me was learning that it’s okay to say “I don’t know how to do that.” It’s not what you want to be telling people you’re supposed to be mentoring, but it’s helpful to set expectations for both you and the mentee, and in my experience, people are very nice about it and willing to learn with you and not just from you, which is what peer mentoring is really about.
Besides that, it really is not as stressful as it sounds. Have fun with it!
