Q: Reflect on the experience of learning how to use StoryMaps. How would you feel about helping someone else learn how to use it? What did you find most interesting? What did you find most frustrating? What questions do you still have, and what parts of the tool do you want to explore more deeply?

I enjoyed exploring StoryMaps and getting to know its features and capabilities. I feel pretty confident helping someone use StoryMaps. There might be a few features that I might not be familiar with but I think the tool is intuitive enough that it wouldn’t be too much of a problem.

I really liked incorporating the map into the story- I think if you use ArcGIS to really customize your map you could do some really cool things with that to make your story even better.

The most frustrating thing about using the tool was that you don’t have much control over layout. It took me a while to understand how to get rid of unnecessary spaces in the story, and the site automatically decides on a size for things like images or image galleries. This is both useful and a bit of an issue, especially if you want to really specify how big or small or where you want your image to be. There are ways to set these specifications, it just takes a little digging around to find it.

Like I mentioned earlier, I am curious about the capabilities of this tool in conjunction with all of ArcGIS’s mapping tools. That’s something I think makes this tool different from other publishing tools.
